Linglestown, it's that time once again ...

for another scintillating edition of Hump Day News 'N Notes. Without further adieu, let's get cracking ...

For those of you entered in the Gazette Mowing Contest, today I mowed my grass for the 7th time. Actually, I mowed it twice since it required two cuts to get a clean cut – rain is supposedly headed our way and I wanted to cut it a little lower than normal.

My yard gets fertilized by TrueGreen Lawn Care, and whatever chemicals they dump on the lawn really makes the grass grow like crazy this time of year.

Entries are no longer being accepted, and the contest ends Nov. 1.

Village notes The rezoning request for Sportsman’s Golf Course has taken a new twist, reports T.W. Burger of The Patriot News. … In Susquehanna Township, the Vartan Group has no plans for its property at Linglestown Road and Progress Avenue, and the new Giant is expected to open early next year. CLICK HERE for more from The Patriot-News. … Hey, I bet you a large coffee at St. Thomas Roasters that you can't guess the average number of calls a month received by the Lower Paxton Township police. It's a whopping 22,000, ranging from serious crimes to complaints about barking dogs, said Sgt. Tom Waller of the department's community policing division. The high volume of calls precludes the department from providing customized police reports for the greater Linglestown area. The police will be sending me news releases that are distributed to the Harrisburg media, many of which are not published. I'll post everything that comes my way – guaranteed.

CD sports In boys’ volleyball, Jon Lutz's 20 kills, two blocks and two aces led CD to a 3-1 victory over Carlisle. Bryan Keister had 24 digs for the Rams (5-3 division, 10-4 overall). Game scores were 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-22.
