Paxton Creek taken off 'impaired' list – for now

The Patriot-News reported Saturday that Lower Paxton Township and other municipalities won't have to comply with federal stormwater treatment requirements for the Paxton Creek, which originates in the Linglestown area.

If the decision by state regulators is OK'd by the federal government, developers will have one less hurdle to scale when trying to get building plans approved for projects in the creek's watershed.

I just received word today that St. Thomas Roasters was named the area's top coffeehouse by readers of Central PA magazine, a publication affiliated with WITF public radio and TV station.

Gazette congrats go out to Java Geof and his talented group of baristas.

Fire company's soup sale this Saturday!

Linglestown Fire Company will once again hold it's mid-winter soup sale this Saturday, Jan. 29 from 11 am until the soup is sold out.

Chicken corn soup & ham and bean soup will be available for eat-in or take-out.

Also, the fire company will be conducting a blood drive from 10:30 am to noon.

This is a great way to support our first responders and to get some yummy soup.

Steel guitar blues coming to Roasters

Sterling Koch returns Saturday evening to St. Thomas Roasters with his trusty steel guitar in hand, 8-10 pm, no cover.

I've heard Sterling perform, and his show is well worth a trip out in the cold to Linglestown's cozy coffeehouse.

Linglestown eatery getting sporty

Sasha's Hideaway, located on Rt. 39 east of the village, is being transformed into a sports bar and grill. After the renovation project, it will be renamed Blue Moose Bar and Grille. (I wonder how they came up with that name?)

The Frank is back at Roasters

Friday night music this week at
St. Thomas Roasters coffeehouse in Linglestown once again will feature the musical extravaganza that only one man this side of the Mississippi can pull off. And that's the one and only Frank Cotolo.

Frank will be banging out the tunes from 8–10 pm. Plus, if you ask nicely, he'll play requests and make up a song on the spot about a topic of your choice.

As always there's no cover charge and Java Geof's fabulous baristas will have plenty of coffee and tea ready to keep you refreshed and jazzed up.

Reader likes massage therapy

Below is a testimonial about Asian Massage on N. Mountain Road in Linglestown:

There is a business called Asian Massage located in the strip mall across from Linglestown Middle School. It is exactly like the one in the Colonial Park Mall that stays very busy, but I think people in this area don't realize it's there.

You can go for a free 10-minute massage and after, you can go in to get 10 minutes, an hour or in between. They charge by the minute or $50 for an hour.

It really is a treasure to have a place so close that can help with stress and pain. A downfall is that the people don't speak good English so I took my computer in to "talk" to them, using Google translator. They are very clean and professional and it would be a shame to lose a business like that in our community.

Community meeting on tap Monday

Stray Winds Area Neighbors (SWAN) has scheduled their 2011 annual meeting with election of officers on Monday, January 17 at 7 pm at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1100 Colonial Road. Regular meeting will follow. Public is invited to attend.

Hawk continues as Lower Paxton's top supervisor

Bill Hawk was selected Monday to continue his long run as chairman of the Board of Supervisors, and George Wolfe was given the thumbs-up to be the township manager for the 22nd year.

Upscale eatery not coming to Linglestown area

Plans for an upscale restaurant with valet parking and a waterfall, a spa and an office building along Linglestown Road between Weis Market and Dunkin' Donuts are officially dead.

Backers of the LenMaur Plaza project failed to finalize plans that were reviewed by Lower Paxton Township officials in 2007. The township supervisors voted last month to deny the applicant more time to take action.
