Prep begins for Sheetz store

Demolision work has begun on the old Geo's Family Restaurant on Allentown Boulevard and the motel behind the restaurant to make way for s Sheetz convenience store.

Geo's has moved to the Country Oven at the Best Western on Mountain Road.

Paxtonia firefighters conducted a training session at the restaurant on Saturday, Sept. 1. I think they were sawing through the roof.

Reese's Motel is slowly being torn down.

Bill, I wanted to get some pictures of the demolition work being done at Geo's, but totally forgot.

I'm glad you were able to capture some!

I saw your pictures of the future Sheetz site. The pic of the Motel was interesting to me. I am involved in demolition and environmental hazards management. The reason it looks partially torn down is because it was first stripped of any valuable scrap - copper aluminum etc.
Additionally, prior to any demolition in our state, a building inspection must be performed to determine the presence of any environmental hazards. If any are found, they must be removed before demolition to minimize the spread of hazardous dust or liquids.
When the actual demolition begins, the contractor should also spray the site with water as it is demolished to minimize, or preferably eliminate visible dust emissions. It should take only one day to raze the site in entirety.
