Clutch hitting helps Twilight down Palmyra

KOONS PARK (July 22) – After getting blown out Monday 11-1 by Penbrook, Linglestown Twilight rebounded Wednesday against Palmyra at Koons Park with a 7-4 win.

Players-of-the-game Nick Barbera and Shawn Berwager had clutch hits – Barbera drove in three runs with a second-inning triple, and Berwager lined a double in the sixth that plated two key runs after Palmyra made it a one-run game in the top of the inning. Barbera is an occasional Twilight player who is a member of the Paxton Legion team that kicks off play in a post-season tournament Sunday, 9:30 am, at Middletown High School.

Steve Booker
sealed the game with a clutch relief appearance for winning pitcher Jim Miller.

Twilight notes Linglestown (17-7-2) continues to hold a six-point lead over second-place Middletown in the East Shore Twilight league. … Twilight got help from Linglestown Legion catcher Brad Smith who ably filled in behind the plate for starter Bryan Stovall against Palmyra. … Joe Beatty and Brian Zellers made their first mound appearances of the season in the Penbrook loss. … Twilight will be looking to reverse their fortunes against Penbrook when the teams meet again Thursday, 6 pm, at Koons Park. Hope to see you there! … Let’s end with a “Where’s Rhys?” note. Twilight pitcher/designated hitter Rhys Wolford, who is rehabbing a shoulder, did a bang-up job operating the electronic scoreboard during Wednesday’s game while regular board operator Bill Bostic was on an assignment for Linglestown Gazette.
