Backyard news, 11.25.08

* The fine folks at Linglestown Life church, located just north of the square on N. Mountain Road, hope to expand their facility in the near future. Church officials are scheduled to appear before the Lower Paxton Twp. Zoning Hearing Board on Thursday, Dec. 4, to present their development plans and seek approval for the project.

* You can buy a Christmas tree and help Koons Pool raise funds for next swimming season this Friday through Sunday, Nov. 28–30, from 10 am to 5 pm at the Gander Mountain store on Route 22. And check this out – Gander Mountain is giving away $10 in Gander Bucks to spend in the store for anyone who buys a tree.

If you live in the Linglestown area, Koons Pool will also be selling trees at Walters Tractor Service, 6690 Linglestown Road, starting this Friday, Nov. 28, 9 am to 8 pm.

Finally, supporters of the pool who volunteer to help sell trees will get a FREE guest pool pass for next swimming season.

Send an e-mail to the pool for more info.

* I received word from HarrisburgatHome.com publisher Rob Nease that he started a companion blog to his Web site.

* Thanks to everyone who completed the challenge to tell friends and family about the great stuff that shows up on Linglestown Gazette. The following readers have been declared winners and are now entered in the fabulous SUPER TRAVEL RAFFLE sponsored by Linglestown Fire Company: Rose Baker, Donna Leinbach, Diana Sawdargs, Carla Miller, Heather Webb and Laura de Mackiewicz.

Also, a shout-out goes to Brian Carl (ineligible due to being a recent Gazette prize winner) and Diane Boyer (just missed a prize by a few minutes) for entering.

If you haven’t entered the raffle, CLICK HERE for details. The drawing will take place Dec. 24.

Hey, I heard a lot of fire activity around 610pm tonight heading east on Linglestown Road through the Patton Road intersection. I could hear the sirens for a good couple of minutes as they were driving through the Colonial Road - Colonial Club Drive stretch of 39. (I could see the firetruck lights from one window in my house thanks to the lack of leaves on the trees.)

I was curious as to what was going on!
