Okay, cute piece, but how does having a degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology get you a teaching job? I know there are special programs to bring folks with technical degrees back into education from industry, but criminal justice?

That's a scary commentary on education...

My guess is part of her educational resume didn't get mentioned. As far as I know, there are course requirements that need to be met to secure a teaching certificate.

My 7th grade son was coached in soccer this fall by Ms. Anderson. She was quite capable as a coach (and teacher). The team didn't win many games, but Coach Anderson kept the boys focused and positive.

I'd argue that she probably has more "real life" experience from her CJ background than many teachers. Also, she has good insight (in the article) about "hovering" parents, who are too overprotective of their kids.
