Lower Paxton TV in the works

Planning is under way to launch a cable access channel for Lower Paxton Twp. and several other communities in the Harrisburg area sometime within the next two years.

Lower Paxton will have a channel of its own that will broadcast governmental-affairs content on a 24/7 basis on the Comcast and Verizon systems, said township manager George Wolfe. Programming would go way beyond the live broadcasts of Board of Supervisors meetings that are now shown on Comcast channel 20.

Specifics on the programming for the new government channel have not been tied down yet, but everything would be related to township meetings, events and services, he said.

Wolfe is chairing a committee of local officials who are preparing to seek proposals from companies that would provide technical services for operating the TV channel.

Meanwhile, Lower Paxton has begun to post videos of Board of Supervisors meeting on the township's Web site.

With the addition of Web-based video replays of meetings, there's one less reason for Gazette readers to be in the dark about local affairs.
