Government Watchdog, week of 03.16.09

There are three meeting on tap that could impact your life and pocketbook this week.

Leading things off, the Central Dauphin School Board will hold a workshop session Tuesday at the Central Dauphin East High School Lecture Hall to review the budget for the 2009-2010 school year, 4:30–6:00 pm.

Also Tuesday evening, Lower Paxton Twp. Board of Supervisors will conduct a business meeting at the Municipal Center, 7:30 pm. The meeting will be broadcast live on Comcast channel 20.

The meeting agenda includes consideration of a police labor contract, transfer of a liquor license for the new Arooga’s sports bar planned at the old KoKoMos location at Linglestown and Colonial roads, and a land development plan for a three-story addition at the Quality Inn on N. Mountain Road.

And, the Village of Linglestown Committee is tentatively scheduled to meet Thursday, 7 pm, at Linglestown Fire Company’s old brick firehouse (enter the white door at the front of the building – do NOT use the door for the social hall). The committee is responsible for planning the village improvement project tentatively slated to start construction this summer.

Lower Paxton government watchdog group Stray Winds Area Neighbors – better known as SWAN – has published a newsletter that recaps all Lower Paxton meetings held in February. This is a great resource for keeping tabs on what elected and appointed officials are doing.

The general public is invited to attend the next meeting of SWAN on Monday, March 30, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 7 pm.
