Koons Pool to get financial help

Koons Pool in Koons Park, Linglestown, is on track to get much-needed financial help.

The pool has received an offer from Lower Paxton-based Centric Bank for an $11,000 loan to pay off debts from last season, and an $8,000 line of credit for pool operating expenses. The township needs to agree to be a secondary loan guarantor, and the supervisors seem willing to do so based on a discussion Tuesday night at their workshop meeting.

The township has been giving the pool annual grants of at least $7,000. Township officials brokered the bank loan as a way to wean the pool off township aid, said Supervisor David Blain.

Supervisor Bill Seeds expressed concern that the pool could face a major expense to comply with new federal safety regulations for pool drains. No one from the pool board was present to address the question.

Koons Pool board member Walter Shatto recently told the Gazette that new equipment and installation costs to upgrade drains are expected to be in the $2,500 range.

The pool is gearing up to open Memorial Day weekend.
