Lower Paxton notebook, 04.16.09

Notes form Tuesday's Board of Supervisors workshop meeting ...

* The township may soon begin charging landscaping businesses and residents to dump yard waste at the township’s Conway Road compost site. Based on discussions Tuesday evening, the season-long residential fee most likely would be in the $15–$20 range and would allow participants to haul away unlimited amounts of leaf compost at no additional cost. The facility operates at a loss, and enacting fees would lessen the hit to the township budget, officials said.

* The township Parks and Recreation Department plans to seek a $250,000 state grant for the planned skate park at George Park. Last year’s grant application was a near-miss, said parks director Brian Leutchford. To date, the township has spent about $30,000 for detailed construction plans.

* Planning for the new Bishop McDevitt High School is moving along. The supervisors may review the plan during their business meeting Tuesday if a road-widening issue can be resolved.
