Election update: CD school board

By Harrison L. Michelson
for Linglestown Gazette

After a contentious race in Region 2, Linda Dallago likely scored a school board seat by winning both party's ballots over board member Justin McShane. (Write-in candidates could challenge her in November.) Dallago won 74 percent of the vote on the Democratic ballot and 64 percent of the vote on the Republican ballot, to McShane's 25 percent and 36 percent.

Unlike the Region 2 race, Region 3 will be a face off in November between Melissa Van Eck and Chris Judd. Van Eck won the Democratic nomination over Judd, while Judd won the Republican nomination running unopposed.

So for the candidate Judd, even by losing he wins and makes it to the November ballot. Our system works but is a little bit strange at times. Oh well.

Judd won the Republican primary to qualify for the November election.

I don't know why, but candidates are allowed to cross-file to appear on the other party's ballot as well. In Judd's case, he also appeared on the Democratic ballot and lost to Van Eck in that race.

Might be related to the fact that there are no opponents on the opposing side. For example, you have 2 republicans and 0 dems. The republicans file to run both rep and dem.

There was a Democrat and a Republican running in the CD school board race in Region 3. The Republican cross-filed, and the Democrat did not.

Yeah, Judd's very likely to win anyway. He took all the votes in the Republican primary, which was significantly more than any possible votes Van Eck could have won in the Democratic primary.
