Youth baseball update, 06.16.09

Pony Division

Rams 14 – Owls 13 (Mon., 6/15) … The first-place Owls (15–2) jumped out to an early 7–0 lead in the first two innings on some big hits from Zack Peffer, Evan Zeigler, Athan Graham, and Logan Gabrielson, but the Rams (6–11) never gave up. Tyler Hall of the Rams came in to shut down the Owls in the fifth and sixth innings, holding them to only two runs. With the Rams down two runs in the sixth and final inning, Zack Herrigan drove in Nate Kindt to knot the game at 13, and then Aiden Smith touched the plate for the winning run.

Midget Division Playoffs

In one of the most exciting games of the year, the Tigers squeaked by the Cubs 5–4 Monday to go one up in the the best-of-three semifinal series. The Cubs were up 2-0, but in the fifth inning the Tigers scored four runs. In the top of the sixth, the Cubs came back and tied the game. The Tigers scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Both teams played a great game, said Tigers coach Steve Foltz.

The Sox topped the Orioles 12–2 in first game of the other semifinal series.

The second game in both series will be played Wednesday, weather permitting.
