Local boy a big winner in swimming meet

Gazette congratulations go out to Jonathan Mata, age 10, who competed in the Keystone State Games in York last week and claimed five medals – four gold and a silver – in the boys 9–10 age group.

Jonathan is coached by Rusty Owens of the Lower Paxton Aquatic Club and Justin Spitzer of the Heatherfield Hurricanes.

He will be going into 5th grade at Saint Margaret Mary School, and he played baseball this summer on the Linglestown Colts pony team.

Also in the Keystone Games, Jake Cherry, age 10, took third in a race. He played for Linglestown Rams pony baseball team.

Pictured above is Jonathan, in the U.S. flag cap, starting a backstroke race. I’m don’t know swimming, but he appears to have a powerful start. Take notice to his excellent back arch and hand position.
