CD rushing decision on bus outsourcing

By Jay Purdy

There are several adages that could be applied to the Central Dauphin school bus debate – “haste makes waste” and “penny-wise and pound-foolish” spring to mind.

Why is the school board sprinting to complete the outsourcing, which wasn’t brought up until after the May primary? In the search for a new superintendent, it has taken the board nearly a year to solicit and vet candidates, and a volunteer citizens’ panel was formed to assist them in the process. But a step with the financial ramifications of outsourcing transportation is rushed and public input is nil – it is not prudent management of taxpayer investment.

CD SCHOOL BOARD needs to put the Brakes on this outsourcing process! They need to form an advisory committee panel of the taxpayers and leave the powers to be off this panel. Because public opinion does matter in this issue. The board would fine that the taxpayers don't want the "gotta effect" down the road. "If only the new high school wasn't all the way out there." One can only think what that added to transportation budget!!
