Twilight one away from championship series

In a comeback for the ages, Linglestown Twilight sandlot baseball team whipped Lawnton 11–9 on the road to take a commanding 2–0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series.

Twilight got off to a rough start, giving up seven runs through the third inning. Meanwhile, Lawnton pitching ace Allan Donato looked unbeatable in the early going. He mowed down the first 10 batters he faced, striking out six.

But, there was no quit on the Linglestown side last night. They started to catch up to Donato’s heat in the fifth inning and plated 11 runners during the last three innings. Rally highlights included a triple by Steve Booker and a double off the bat of Nate Shroy.

Scott Montgomery pitched two solid innings of relief to pick up the win, and Booker worked out of a last-inning jam to earn a save.

The last inning was played in dusk conditions, and both sides questioned the umpire’s ball-and-strike calls throughout the game.

Game three of the series will be played Wednesday at Koons Park, 5:45 pm.
