Linglestown Gazette: B² update

B² update

Today some comments surfaced about the lack of updates. Here's the short version of a long story:

The combination of local-news blogging and working a full-time job for an Internet-based news service caught up with me after three years and nearly 1,600 posts. It became apparent over the summer that I needed to take a break.

I'm evaluating whether to jump back into the fray on a regular basis.

Some of you may remember that I was awarded a grant to expand local-news blogging in the Harrisburg area. I canceled the project in August due to running out steam and returned the initial $10,000 grant award.

Regardless of what happens with the Gazette, I want to express my appreciation for those of you who contributed content, passed along news tips, and participated in my wacky contests and promotions. Thanks also go to my sponsors listed to the right and to everyone who is a regular reader.

Hey Bill - thanks for the update. I hope you know I support you either way. It's been great knowing that someone has their "finger on the pulse" of Linglestown (and LP), but we've talked about the burden of trying to be everywhere, hear everything and provide insightful, timely reporting. Whether you decide to jump back in, step back or find some third option, I'll be behind you.

Too bad, the news from the community was great. Did you also return the camera that you asked your readers to buy to cover linglestown Baseball?

In reply to the comment from Anonymous: The volunteer work that Bill Bostic has contributed to the Linglestown Gazette for our community enrichment is absolutely PRICELESS! Bill, thank you for the outstanding coverage through the past 3 years. I understand and support any decision you make concerning LG.

Thanks to anonymous for proving that anonimity and a computer make it easy and self righteous to be brave with cheap shots. Bill is too good a guy to respond to your cheap incinuations, but I'm not, I've responded to bigger bully's than you, in more than just words. If you know Bill at all, Bill would go way out of his way to avoid personal gain from what has been an outstanding volunteer effort for our community. I know Bill will be upset that I responded to you at all, he's that kind of guy, but I couldn't let this go.

Bill,
Whatever your decision, you have performed a great service in raising awareness within the Linglestown/LP community and I wish you the best.
I still check LG daily by habit. How about maintaining it just for major happenings and posting upcoming community events or milestones?
A little LG is a lot better than no LG at all.

Wha ever happened to the New Years Event in Linglestown?

RE: New Years Event in Linglestown

Thanks for posing the question, Slew Foot.

A group met a couple times earlier this year to consider staging event this year, but event planning was suspended when I realized that I had taken on too many projects.

Thank you for all the work you put into this endeavor.

It was truly appreciated.

Bill:

You did a great service for your readers and the community by publishing the Gazette as long as you have. It's a shame to see it disappear, but totally understandable. A human being can do only so much! Have you thought of developing a roster of contributors to make your life easier?

I want to thank you on behalf of LEC Capital Region. You helped us to promote the French student homestay program in south central Pennsylvania. Thanks for keeping a link to our blog.

Whatever the future of the Gazette, thanks for a wonderful experience.

I have enjoyed your communications and was really hoping that the project would go through. I liked the idea of being able to have news updates about our local smaller communities.

If you ever want to try to kick that off again, I would be willing to help.

Thanks again for all that you have done.
