Twilight baseball update

Linglestown Twilight sandlot baseball team won a pair of tight games last weekend and vaulted into second place at the start of the week in the East Shore Twilight league with a 6–3 record.

They nipped Penbrook 2–1 on Saturday at Koons Park despite facing Carlos Peralta (pictured), a pitcher who recently played in the Washington Nationals farm system. Twilight catcher Kyle Hollingsworth got the key hit, a single in the third inning that scored both runs. Joe Leo was the winning pitcher.

On Sunday, Twilight escaped a final-inning rally by archrival Middletown to win 7–6 at Koons Park. Middletown, trailing 7–2, nearly tied the game in their last at-bat, scoring four runs. Twilight center fielder Ken Connor nailed a runner at the plate to end the game. Jason Kelly had a solid six-inning outing on the mound to pick up the win. At the plate, left fielder Nate Shroy stroked a two-run homer in the third inning, and second baseman Nick Barbera went three-for-three with three singles.

Twilight will be competing in a tournament this week in the Reading area.
