Palmyra nips Twilight to extend series

Palmyra rallied for three runs in the seventh and final inning to edge Linglestown Twilight 3–2 Thursday at Koons Park. Linglestown still leads the best-of-five East Shore Twilight League semifinal series two games to one.

Two walks issued by Linglestown hurler Evan Phillips to start the final inning resulted in a pair of runs on a misplayed grounder. Palmyra first baseman Mike Snyder followed with a game-winning homer that he tomahawked over Koons Park's short left-field fence.

Linglestown had trouble figuring out Palmyra pitcher Mike Weary’s sidewinding delivery. The right-hander gave up four hits, struck out nine and walked two in a complete-game outing.

The final inning spoiled a good effort by Evan Phillips, who went the distance and only allowed five hits.

Game 4 of the series will be played Friday night in Palmyra at the In the Net Sports Complex. Game time is 5:45 pm.
