Linglestown Gazette: Linglestown roundabouts now open

Linglestown roundabouts now open

I checked out the square roundabout during the 6 pm hour.

There was limited traffic at that time. Motorists in general appeared to be unsure how to properly maneuver through the roundabout. I saw a couple drivers traveling westbound on Rt. 39 who didn't realize that they had to yield to cars in the roundabout and entered it without first checking for other cars to their left.

Be sure to slow down when approaching the roundabout, and look left for traffic already in the roundabout before entering the circle.

A little scary watching drivers trying to figure out who has the right of way. . .maybe we need a traffic cop until ppl get the hang of this. Wish everyone could watch the video you have posted a couple times, Bill!!

Watched the video a few weeks ago on how to manage the roundabouts. Wish PennDot, Patriot News, TV stations would air something as well. The public just needs to be educated. It will take getting used to for most motorists, but I didn't have any real issues during evening rush yesterday or this morning. I like the flow and the idea of not stopping. Think they work out just fine after some practice.

Just had to swing up onto the center portion of the roundabout at the Square to avoid being hit by someone speeding down 39. C'mon folks, get with it.

Education is definately needed, as "Q" suggested. If everyone could remember once you are in the roundabout. . .keep moving. . .you have the right away once you are in the circle! all others need so yield at that point NOT those already in it! Another key. . .SLOW DOWN!

I like the idea that a huge amount was saved in NOT putting up a couple more traffic lights. Yes, people will get used to driving through them. Perhaps we should look at a roundabout for Nyes and Devonshire Heights Road, since nothing is happening to improve the situation there (including trimming obstructing trees and weeds).
