Persistence pays off in search for dog

I received word that a lost greyhound named Leah (pictured) was rescued after 19 days on the loose in the Colonial Park area. Information about the search for Leah was the subject of a recent blog post. Below is an excerpt from an email sent to the Gazette:

We had been able to draw her into feeding stations from time to time, so she was getting some nourishment. Unfortunately she is extremely thunder-phobic so every time we were on the verge of trapping her, a storm would hit and she be off and running again and we were back at square one until the next sighting.

At roughly 4:00 am on Friday, June 17, she showed up at her home and barked to be let in. She was dehydrated, had some lacerations/abrasions, some tick bites and had lost weight, but was miraculously healthy considering her situation.

I am so glad to see she is home. It is awful to lose a beloved pet. I guess she is a tough one. Many years of happiness to her family!

Oh thank goodness. I've seen the signs everywhere. We have two whippets, so the idea of someone's beloved sighthound lost just broke my heart. I've kept an eye out. Good to know she is safely home again!!
