Backyard News, 09.19.11

* Residents on Elmer and Elaine avenues in Linglestown now have long-awaited freshly paved streets. The neighborhood got hit with a double whammy over the last couple years when sewer and water lines were replaced.

* St. Thomas United Church of Christ in Linglestown recently dedicated a special mural in the church's nursery in memory of Melissa Yarosh, who died in April 2006 at age 14 in a tragic car and pedestrian accident on N. Mountain Road.

* The Linglestown Softball Association is gearing up to improve the field located next to the tennis courts. Work is expected to start soon on new dugouts, a backstop and a storage building that will include a concession stand. The association is fully funding the work. (Report filed by community watchdog group SWAN.)
