The story about CD schools that you'll never read in the daily paper

Thank God for community activist Eric Epstein and his quest to dredge information out of Central Dauphin officials about the odd way the school district is being administered these days.

In brief, Superintendent Dr. Luis Gonzalez's contract was not renewed last summer and he's been working out his contract by doing an enrollment study. His annual salary is $150,000, according to The Patriot-News. (I bet the district could have hired a consultant to do an enrollment study for considerably less than $150K.)

While Gonzalez has been shuffled off somewhere to work on a special project, the district's day-to-day affairs are being handled by Assistant Superintendent Carol Johnson.

This quizzical setup has attracted the attention of the state Auditor General Jack Wagner.

AS I RETIRED DRIVER AND PAST PRESIDENT OF THE DRIVERS ASSOC. IT HURTS TO SEE A PART OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TURN AROUND FROM A PROUD UNIT TO WHAT IT IS TODAY. GOOD DRIVERS LEAVING ALL THE TIME AND MOST OF THE ONES BEING HIRED ARE NOT THE TYPE TO SHOW AND ACT AS THE UNIT SHOULD. WHO IS RUNNING THE DEPARTMENT? GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS AND SHOW CD PRIDE!!!!

LETS GET SOME ONE AS A SUPT. WHO WANTS THE DISTRICT TO GO AHEAD AND NOT BACKWARDS. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN SMART TO LET THE SUPT. GO AND HIRE SOME ONE TO LEAD.
THE DIST. SPENT PILES OF MONEY ON UNNECESSARY
THINGS AND DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. SAVE MONEY BY NOT CUTTING THE TEACHERS WHO ARE ON THE FRONT LINE AND TRYING TO EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN SO WHEN THEY LEAVE CD SCHOOL DIST. BEING READY TO GO TO COLLEGE AND NOT JUST GETTING A SHEET SAYING I GRADUATED.
GET RID OF THE COMPANY THAT IS RUNNING THE BUSES AND SAVE OVER 300 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THIS WILL PAY FOR SOME OF THE TEACHERS.
I ASK THE BOARD TO SHOW HOW SMART THEY ARE AND LEAD THE DIST. AS YOU SHOULD.

Does anyone know if the bus drivers' association has wrapped up their negotiations with the district?

I agree with Frank, but CD proud will never come back. The transportation company hires anyone that breathes with NO CARE of the safety of the children. I challenge every taxpayer to speak to your student and ask them about their drivers, do they speak english? Do they properly do bus stops? Do they stop at stop signs? Taxpayers, we are paying all these taxes and are you aware Jay Omslaer is making over 110,000 a year for what? He sits at his desk and fires anyone who is a CDBDA member? Why not get rid of him and SAVE THE TEACHERS?
