Linglestown civc group gearing up for busy fall

Doug Kepler (pink shirt) leads meeting
About 26 people attended the Linglestown Area Civic Association (LACA) meeting Wednesday, including Bill Minsker who spearheaded the reorganization of the group and recently returned from working several months in Poland. Forty-four residents have joined the group to date.

So far this year LACA manned a booth at the Spring Fling, sponsored a float in the Memorial Day parade, and worked with PennDOT to acquire the "Yield to Pedestrian" signs located at crosswalks in the village.

In the works is a historical event during the Fall Festival on Oct. 20-21, the annual Carol Sing on Dec. 2, and a New Year's Eve celebration in the square that will feature ringing in 2013 with special edition hand and cow bells. Also, initial work is under way for 250th anniversary of Linglestown in 2015.

Keeping the village clean is a LACA activity too. The group is set up with the state to do four pick-ups per year with the first one slated for Sept. 8.

Prior to ending the gathering with an ice cream social, Minsker encouraged everyone to use Linglestown instead of Harrisburg for residential mailing addresses to promote the village.

Email the Gazette if you'd like info on how you can get involved.
