Stray firework explodes at Koons Park

The start of a sandlot baseball game was delayed Tuesday evening at Koons Park by about 10 minutes by two policemen canvassing the field with police dogs.

I was told the police were there in response to a firework that exploded in the area of field. It probably was a leftover from the fireworks show held at the park on July 3 that was missed by the cleanup crew.

Tonight I got the rest of the story from a woman who attended the civic association meeting – a Lower Paxton Township employee touched off the firework when he hit it while mowing the grass with a riding mower. Apparently, the explosion knocked belts off the mower's underside, damaged the blade and scared the bejesus out of the worker.
