Linglestown Twilight blanks Palmyra

Linglestown Twilight pitcher Jack Muscalus helped get the team back on the winning track Sunday at Koons Park by keeping Palmyra off the scoreboard and limiting them to five hits. The 5-0 victory runs the team’s record to 12-4-1, first place in the East Shore Twilight league by three points over Valley View.

The turning point of the game came in the fourth inning when Palmyra booted the ball three times and allowed Linglestown to score three runs on only one hit.

Former minor league player Steve Booker had another good game at the plate with two hits, a RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Third baseman Jim Miller also had a multiple-hit game with two singles and was named the Linglestown TV player of the game – see the video below.

Twilight notes Second baseman Shawn Berwager was robbed of a hit in the third inning by a diving catch in right field by Palmyra’s Bert Malloy. … Hershey Bears left winger Louis Robitaille is on Palmyra's roster but did not show up for the game. ... Veteran pitcher Pete Hayden made a rare non-pitching appearance on the field when his number was called to serve as a courtesy runner for catcher Bryan Stovall. … Linglestown TV host Bill Bostic got the team’s record wrong in the post-game video. "The miscue is proof that I’m not ready for ESPN yet," Bostic said when informed of the blunder. ... Linglestown will play Tuesday, July 1, at Koons Park against Steelton, 6 pm first pitch. The game will be the fourth time the two teams have squared off this season. Linglestown won the first two games by blowout scores, but the last one played on June 18 in Steelton was a nailbiter, a 4-3 win by Linglestown in 10 innings.
