Linglestown's cutest dog?

Daisy, a Jack Russell Terrier, has become a big part of the Bostic household over the last eight years. I'm sure the above picture will be a cherished keepsake.

The photo was taken by my daughter, Danielle, who recently started a career as a professional photographer. She set up fancy lighting equipment in a bedroom at our home to pull off the shot. Several experts have told her she has quite a knack for taking great pet shots.

Danielle will help Gazette readers create a lifelong memory of your cutest pet in the Linglestown area. CLICK HERE for details.

Big rigs having trouble at Linglestown roundabouts

Q-tip on village road project ...

Gazette contributor Q reports that at least two tractor-trailers have had to do some fancy maneuvering to get through both partially constructed roundabouts in Linglestown.

Lower Paxton Township manager George Wolfe assured Q in an email that the roundabouts were designed to accommodate tractor trailers, school buses and fire trucks. The only catch is that the free flow of oversized vehicles will not be possible until after completion of construction.

Q also passed along an article about the growing use of roundabout in the U.S.

Linglestown roundabout passes first test

The roundabout in the Linglestown square got a preliminary test today when construction workers changed the traffic pattern in the village to make way for finishing work on the central island of the roundabout.

The design passed the initial test. I witnessed a school bus make the left-hand turn from N. Mountain Road onto westbound Route 39 with no problem after some construction barriers were moved.

Route 39 is now open in both directions from the square heading east.

Traffic approaching the square on N. Mountain Road will be able to turn right onto Route 39 eastbound, or turn left around the partially built circle to head westbound through the village on Route 39.

Here are some other notes on the project:

* All the trees have been planted along Linglestown Road and along the new Blue Mountain Parkway bypass, and grass areas have been repaired and seeded.

* Sewer work on Mountain Road beside the Eagle Hotel was complicated by the need to remove an old buried gasoline storage tank. One was also found near Lio’s Pizza & Sub Shop.

* Planning is under way to hold a celebration to mark the completion of the project.

* If the rest of May is relatively dry, there’s a change that Route 39 could be opened to traffic in both directions by Memorial Day weekend.
SWAN and Linglestown Merchants Association contributed to this post.
