Lower Paxton to consider noise ordinance

Lower Paxton Township supervisors will conduct a public hearing for a proposed noise ordinance during their regular business meeting this Tuesday, April 5, 7:30 pm at the Municipal Center on Prince Street.

Community watchdog group SWAN lobbied for the legislation in response to neighborhood noise situations that police were unable to resolve.

The ordinance was modeled after one in use in neighboring Susquehanna Township, and SWAN members worked with Lower Paxton's public safety director to fine-tune its wording.

The Paxton Herald, a local tabloid newspaper, has strongly objected to the noise ordinance, claiming that police will conduct noise patrols with sound meters. The allegation is silly – citizens and local officials working on the law have not endorsed or even discussed establishing noise patrols.

If adopted, the law would enable police to charge citizens who recklessly cause nuisances with an offense that has a chance to hold up in court. In most cases, the law would only be used when citizens file complaints about neighborhood noise.

Linglestown construction inspection report

Work on the Linglestown improvement project has been under way three days. I'm now in citizen inspector mode, and below are my findings.

- Linglestown Road has been cut for the island at the roundabout in the square (pictured). It appears to be at least 10-15 times larger than the old one.

- Marks have been painted on Linglestown Road to outline the two chicanes on the east end of the village. One is located in front of the medical building near Balthaser Street, and the other is just east of Margaret Avenue.

- Digging has started in front of the Eagle Hotel on N. Mountain Road to install a new sewer line. Parking is still available in most of the restaurant's lot and in the square.

- Speaking of the square, motorists on Linglestown Road cannot make a turn onto N. Mountain Road.

- Blackberry Alley is open from Blue Mountain Parkway to Linglestown Life Church, but no right-hand turns are allowed onto N. Mountain Road to get to the square.

- The streetlight that was knocked down was repaired today.

- The tentative construction schedule calls for road improvements to be finished by late June or early July.

Roundabouts next up in Linglestown makeover

Plans for restarting the Linglestown improvement project were discussed last week during the Village of Linglestown Committee meeting.

Work is slated to resume on Monday, March 28 with traffic once again limited to one westbound lane on Linglestown Road through the village.

Work will begin with construction of the north halves of the two roundabouts, and then in mid-May work will switch to the south side of the road to complete the roundabouts.

Separately, sewer work will take place on N. Mountain Road in the area of the square.

If all goes as planned, the final layer of asphalt will be applied toward the end of June.

The project will be completed with the installation of benches, planting of trees and landscaping of grass areas.

As was the case last year, all village merchants will be open for business during construction, and newly paved alleys will make it easier to navigate around construction to reach restaurants and shops.

Making a difference in Linglestown

Casey Fazzolari and her daughter, Madison, are working to make Koons Park a great place for people to visit. Below is their story ...

Madison and I go to Koons Park once a week and pick up all the trash throughout the park. It is amazing how good you feel when you are done and know that the other families that bring their children and animals to the park will be safe and be able to enjoy themselves without looking at all that trash.

During a recent outing, we met a nice family walking their dog and a police officer stopped and said he saw us picking up trash and wanted to thank us for our efforts. I told him we aren't rich but wanted to think of a way to help out our local community and families and what better way, since we also go there to play and would like it to be clean for everyone. Madison was so excited to speak with him and he told her that was being a very good girl and she is learning very good morals and manners. That made me feel like the richest women in the world and a good mommy.

The moral of the story is that you don't have to be rich to give back to your community.

You can read more about this dynamic duo on their website.
