B² feeling 'good' pain

B² ... no pain, no gain

I've been banging around the idea for quite some time to get my 50-something body into better physical condition. In short, I’m a 160-pound dude with the strength of a 99-pound weakling, and that's on my good days.

I know ... pretty pathetic! But, this is the kind of to-do item that is really easy to put off.

The stumbling block isn't that I lack athletic abilities. I played high school basketball and golf, competed as an amateur bicycle racer and ran in a few running races. Also, hiking the Appalachian Trail from start to finish could be in my future.

So, I have no problem sweating, huffing and puffing. What I've lacked for a few decades is a training partner.

My wife is a physical-fitness machine and she loves to call me "old man" due to my not-so-great fitness level. Pairing with her to get into shape would be a disaster – she'd leave me in the dust in nothing flat and love doing it. (For the record, I could outpace her running from time to time back in the mid-1980s.)

I've recently been experiencing a growing number of aches and pains – mainly a stiff right hip and shoulder – and knew it was time to take action to slow down the aging process.

Personal trainer Rene Seigrist

On a whim, I made a split-second decision to visit Core Results Personal Training on N. Mountain Road in the Linglestown Plaza. In no time flat co-owners Rene and Steve agreed to put me through the paces for a discounted price in exchange for me documenting my progress on Linglestown Gazette.

My first three weeks of training with Renee are nearly under my belt and predictably I'm a bit tired, stiff and sore.

But this is what I call "good" pain! I can already tell teaming up with Core Results is best decision I've made in decades.

Look out ... six-pack abs here I come!
____

Look for my first fitness update in a couple of months. In the meantime, I’m going to ask Rene for some fitness tips to encourage Gazette readers to get up and get active.

Seen in Linglestown ...

It may look like someone hung their wash out to dry, but it's not. Emma's Center for Body & Soul on N. Mountain Rd. was peddling clothing from India and Thailand over the weekend.

I'll have to check out Emma's to find out what that's all about.

Reader likes massage therapy

Below is a testimonial about Asian Massage on N. Mountain Road in Linglestown:

There is a business called Asian Massage located in the strip mall across from Linglestown Middle School. It is exactly like the one in the Colonial Park Mall that stays very busy, but I think people in this area don't realize it's there.

You can go for a free 10-minute massage and after, you can go in to get 10 minutes, an hour or in between. They charge by the minute or $50 for an hour.

It really is a treasure to have a place so close that can help with stress and pain. A downfall is that the people don't speak good English so I took my computer in to "talk" to them, using Google translator. They are very clean and professional and it would be a shame to lose a business like that in our community.

Colonial Country Club headed for tax sale?

Central Penn Business Journal reported today that Colonial Country Club located west of the village of Linglestown along Route 39 will go up for sheriff's sale July 9.

However, if you're looking to buy the club on the cheap, odds are you won't get a chance to bid on it. Lower Paxton Twp.-based Triple Crown Corporation officials announced in May that they plan to buy and manage the country club.

The club borrowed millions of dollars in recent years to renovate the clubhouse and golf course. Like many golf facilities throughout the U.S., Colonial's membership count dropped when the economy tanked. Eventually the club defaulted on a mortgage.

UPDATES: Linglestown merchants

* Jim and Lisa Clancy are inching closer to opening their custom frame shop – appropriately called Framed! – that is located a couple doors west of St. Thomas Restaurant in the village square. Odds are it will be open prior to the Firemen’s Convention in Linglestown on June 12–13.

* Linglestown Flowers & Gifts is moving to the stone house located at the intersection of Linglestown Road and Blue Mountain Parkway. The house is next to Kepler Masonry's office building.

* Another business moving in the not too distant future is Schenk’s Cakes. The shop, currently located in the plaza on N. Mountain Road, will move this summer a few doors closer to the village square into the commercial property that formerly housed an auto supply store.

* The Linglestown Merchants Association is seeking new members. The group’s mission is to promote the "Village of Linglestown" for the benefit of local businesses, residents, and visitors.

The merchants will hold their next meeting this Monday, June 8,
6:30 pm at Olivia’s Tea Room (rear entrance). If you are interested in more information or attending, e-mail Tina Robenolt.
