Music at Roasters

The longstanding tradition of live music at St. Thomas Roasters coffee house in Linglestown continues this weekend with something new and something familiar but oh so good.

On Friday, Carlisle trio Three Twelve will perform for the first time at Roasters. You can sample some of their tunes on their website.

Just like clockwork, Just Dave (pictured) will be doing his thing Saturday night. Dave always pours out some good stuff and passes along some interesting tidbits along the way.

Show times run 8–10 pm both nights, no cover charge. And, Jave Geof and his baristas will have plenty of coffee and other tasty treats on the ready.

Lastly, road construction won't be a problem because work has ended for the week.

Free tunes at Roasters this Friday, May 14

Live music this Friday, May 14 at St. Thomas Roasters coffee house will be provided by Linglestown resident Dave Kaprocki and his band, Timeless. They will be performing some great tunes from 8-10 pm.

Dave, the group's guitarist, will be joined by lead singer Patty Tamayo, Kevin Gibson on bass and George Reichley on drums. Dave and Patty are pictured performing above at Roasters during 2009.

Come early, bring a friend, relax, and enjoy a great time of music and delicious coffee, tea and sweet stuff that's oh-so-good. As always, there's no cover charge.

Comedy, puppet shows coming to Linglestown

Amy Barnes and Jerry Miner are bringing over twenty years of comedy experience to Linglestown Life, 1430 N. Mountain Road, Harrisburg (1/2 block north of the square in Linglestown) on Saturday, October 31 in two shows at 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Amy and Jerry have over 25 national television appearances – including Comedy Central and HBO – and have written for Jack Black, Bonnie Hunt, Jay Leno and Bill Cosby.

Linglestown Life's own band, Diadem, will open the show with a blend of contemporary music that will get you ready to enjoy an evening of laughter.

The 6:00 pm show will also feature a separate children's program by Messiah College's Puppet Praise. This energetic group of Messiah students will provide an evening of fun for kids of all ages. Admission is included in the price of adult admission.

Tickets are available in advance by contacting the church at 717-545-5200 or by e-mail. Advance tickets are $12 per person and $15 at the door. Refreshments will be provided. Doors open at 5:30 and 7:40 pm.

Legendary music coming to CD

Central Dauphin Band Boosters Association will welcome the legendary sound of the Artie Shaw Orchestra to the Central Dauphin High School for one night only on Tuesday, October 20 at 7 pm. Tickets are $9 for students and seniors, $12 for adults.

Concerts like this one provide excellent entertainment for the community and give students a chance to meet professional musicians.

This weekend's musical menu at St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown features two local acts worthy of your attention.

Dave Kaprocki & The Substitutes, a Linglestown-based group of accomplished artists, will perform fun music from the past and present Friday evening. On Saturday, Frank and Jack Cotolo of Grantville return to the coffee house stage and will introduce some new material.

Benefit concert on tap Saturday

Great music for a great cause ...

Lower Paxton resident and Gazette reader Dave Kaprocki and his band, Cellar Katz, will be presenting an outdoor benefit concert this Saturday, Aug. 22, at a nearby church. The band will perform classic rock n’ roll, contemporary Christian, a goofy song or two, and even a few country tunes.

The show will benefit Mike Kiner, an East Pennsboro Twp. man who is suffering with a rare disease and needs a lung transplant. Donations will be accepted during the concert. CLICK HERE for a recent newspaper article about Mike and his family.

I’ve heard Cellar Katz and they get a B² five-star rating, well worth the short drive to the concert venue.

Place: Capital Area Christian Church, located not far off of I-81 on the West Shore, about a 15-minute drive from Lower Paxton Twp.

Time: Food and soft drinks will be available from 5:30 to 7:00 pm; Cellar Katz will perform from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Important: Be sure to bring lawn chairs!

All-time Roasters favorite singer/guitarist Frank Cotolo will grace the coffee house stage on Friday, and Moe Weimer and The Snoods will be doing their thing Saturday. Stop by 8–10 pm both nights, no cover.

Saturday ... "Safety Day" at Metro Bank at the branch located next to Dunkin’ Donuts on Linglestown Road.

Saturday ... Peach festival and craft fair at New Hope Church, 1–5 pm. There will be fun stuff for kids including free pony rides (1–3 pm), a moon bounce, face painting, a dunk tank and craft tables.

Saturday ... Championship baseball at Koons Park. Consider stopping by the park for game five of the East Shore Twilight League playoff final series between Linglestown Twilight and Middletown, first pitch at 3 pm.

Linglestown Twilight evened the best-of-seven series at two games apiece Thursday in a 15–1 blowout win at Middletown High School. Rhys Wolford pitched a tidy two-hitter and left fielder Nate Shroy rocketed a round-tripper way, way, way over the fence with two on in the sixth inning. (Patriot-News game report)

Kids to rock Roasters

The Grease Monkey’s, a rock band made up of four children who attend Linglestown Elementary School, will be playing at St. Thomas Roasters tonight (Friday, Aug. 7), 8–10 pm, no cover.

Luke Diecidue, age 8, is the drummer, Jacob Diecidue, age 10, is the guitar player, Kristopher Ramstrom, age 10, is the bass player, and Kiersten Smith, age 10, is the singer.

The band has played together for the past three years, and has started scheduling gigs for large private parties, as well as playing for Relay for Life at the Susquehanna High School in June. They have a large following of fellow students, families and teachers, which was apparent at The Relay for Life performance.

The children are very professional and very talented, playing songs ranging from Vertigo, by U2, to Tick Tick Boom, by The Hives. They are directed and managed by Tom Diecidue, a professional musician himself, playing at local venues for over 25 years.

* West Hanover Winery kicks off its summer concert series Saturday.

Rock/alternative/jam band The Snoods will be doing their thing tonight at St. Thomas Roasters coffee house, 8-10 pm, no cover.

By the way, Java Geof and his gang at Roasters are taking the day off tomorrow, Saturday, July 4, to celebrate Independence Day. The coffee house will reopen Sunday.

Benefit concert exceeds expectations

Check out the highlights from Paul and Hank’s Food Collection Concert held Friday at Linglestown Fire Hall.

I was very pleased with the turnout, and the couple that heads up the food pantry at Bethany Church of the Nazarene in Linglestown seemed to be wowed by everyone’s generosity.

Things are shaping up for tonight's big benefit concert in the St. Thomas Room at Linglestown Fire Hall. Here's the lineup of entertainment that will kick off at 7 pm:


* Singer/guitarist Frank Cotolo of Grantville and his side musician, son Jack, will lead things off.

* Next up, the comedy team Cash is King will make their world debut.

* Rounding out the opening acts is guitar fingerstylist Dave Campbell of Mt. Holly Springs.

* The evening will feature singer/guitarist Paul Zavinsky and guitarist extraordinaire Paul Imof, both of Hummelstown. They will take the stage at 8:10 pm or so.

No ticket needed – just donate a nonperishable food item or make a cash donation at the door.

Stay for a few minutes or take in the whole show, but whatever you do, please come out to this community event. Be there or B²!
