Linglestown weekend happening

The weekend has arrived, and that means ... you guessed it, chicken BBQ.

New Hope Church, 584 Colonial Club Drive, will be offering up birds and all the fixin's on Saturday, April 28 from 10 am to 1 pm. Proceeds will benefit a community park project at the church.

Marzoni's, not Hoss's coming to Linglestown area

Linglestown Gazette reported earlier this year on a Hoss's Steak and Sea House that was in the works to be located near the Sheetz convenience store on Linglestown Road. Actually, Hoss's has another plan in mind.

The Patriot-News reported today that Hoss's "is in discussions" to construct a brew-pub restaurant called Marzoni's at the location, and is firming up plans to open one on the West Shore in spring 2008.

The news article cited Lew Bryson, a beer expert who probably has visited every brew-pub, micro-brewery and brewery in Pennsylvania and beyond. I saw him a couple times on a PA Books, a TV show on Pennsylvania Cable Network. Lew definitely knows his brewskies.

Campaign signs appear as primary nears

Campaign signs have sprouted throughout the Linglestown area for the May 15 primary election.

Signs placed at the flagpole island at the village square caused a stir on the Linglestown forum on PennLive.com. (See item #99.) I walked to the square tonight, and the signs had been removed.


This election cycle features races for county and township offices, school board seats and some statewide judicial posts. Also, all registered voters have a chance to weigh in on a school property tax issue

LP Historical Society to meet Thursday, April 26

The Lower Paxton Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. April 26 at the St. Thomas Roasters coffee shop on Linglestown Road in the village of Linglestown. The public is invited.

Village to get new parking lot

Planned improvements in Linglestown that tentatively will go under construction this fall include a 60-space public parking lot.

Based on e-mail correspondence with Lower Paxton Township manager George Wolfe, the red box in the photo below is the approximate location of the lot.

Linglestown weekend happenings

Friday night music at St. Thomas Roasters coffee shop features Frank Cotolo, a.k.a. Mr. Linglestown, who will debut his show that he's calling The Blind Will Hear, The Deaf Will See Extravaganza. He'll start spreading the good news at 8 pm or so.

Chicken BBQ is on tap on Saturday at the Linglestown American Legion Post #272 on N. Mountain Road across from Hornungs hardware store. Birds will be ready to go starting at 10 am.

Tax bureau update

Capital Tax Collection Bureau directors were questioned by local officials who attended a meeting held at the Lower Paxton Township municipal center.

In recent months, several muncipalities and school districts, including Lower Paxton and Central Dauphin School District, have questioned the amount of tax revenue received from the bureau.

St. Thomas United Church of Christ is Linglestown's oldest church, dating back to 1730. It is located east of the village at the intersection of Route 39 and Wenrich Street.

Village watchdog

* Lower Paxton Township supervisors will conduct a business meeting tonight at 7:30 pm at the municipal center, 425 Prince Street.

The meeting will be broadcast on channel 20 on Comcast cable.

* Village of Linglestown Committee will conduct its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 19 at 7 pm at the Linglestown Fire Company's brick building.

* Village of Linglestown Committee members appointed for 2007 – Eric Kessler, Andrew Christine, James Griffiths, Gary L. Hoffman, John Kepler, Stuart Knade, William E. Minsker, Paul M. Rowe, Joseph Mack, Perry Pierich, Jerry Miller and Pastor G. Barry Stahl.

* Parking spaces will be added at St. Thomas Roasters coffee shop. The project in part aims to eliminate a dangerous traffic problem in front of the building.

* Final plans have been approved for Candlewood Suites, a three-story, 93-unit extended-stay hotel at North Mountain Road and Lockwillow Avenue. The developer contributed $11,000 to the township for improving the traffic signal at the intersection.

* Lower Paxton Township will construct and maintain a 60-space public parking lot on property owned by Linglestown Life United Methodist Church, which is located a block north of the village square.

The lot is part of the township's village improvement project that is expected to go under construction this fall.

Linglestown, the early days

* Dane Maryott, a member of the Lower Paxton Historical Society, has put together a nice collection of historic photos of Linglestown. CLICK HERE to check them out.

The group is planning to scour Blue Mountain near the village for the site of a B-25 plane crash that happened during the 1950s. Lower Paxton Township news

LP supervisors approved a lease Tuesday night for a cell tower at the township's sewage facility. CLICK HERE for a story from The Patriot-News.

The only other item of note on the meeting agenda was review of a sewage plan for the Sheetz convenience store that will be built at the current location of Geo's Restaurant.
